Using a sperm bank is a safe and effective way to conceive a child. Of course, there are many things to consider when choosing the right sperm bank for your needs. This is a major life decision and we encourage you to get all the information you can.
All the major sperm banks and fertility clinics in the U.S. are different, so it’s good to research and compare. There are substantial differences in pricing, minimum sperm cell counts per vial, donor profile information, and many other details. It’s in your best interest to look at all the available options to find the best fit for you.
To help you make a more informed decision, Seattle Sperm Bank has created a list of 30 questions you should ask before choosing a sperm bank. These questions range from things to consider when selecting a donor to using a home insemination kit. If you have any questions not addressed in this list, please contact Seattle Sperm Bank directly for answers and assistance.
How Seattle Sperm Bank Screens Donors
One of the most important considerations is how donors are vetted and selected. At Seattle Sperm Bank, we only use sperm samples from carefully screened donors. This helps ensure the health and safety of you and your child. While the U.S. Food and Drug Administration does have existing regulations for sperm donation, our process is even more rigorous. Plus, we consistently look for ways to improve our screening process to better protect you. We encourage you to learn more about how we screen donors.
Becoming a sperm donor isn’t easy. Only about 1% of all donor applicants can pass our screening requirements. That means those finally chosen are the healthiest and most committed donors available. We do this in a variety of ways including conducting complete physical exams, comprehensive genetic testing, and full criminal background checks of all potential donors.
One-on-One Consultations
When shopping around for a sperm bank, be sure to ask about consultations. There are so many things to consider, it’s often best to talk with someone directly about the process. We strive to make the selection process more personable and affordable, so we don’t charge for one-on-one consultations. Our client services coordinators are happy to answer questions and provide as much guidance as you need whether in person or on the phone.
Some other clinics charge for consultations as well as basic donor profile information and photos. All of that is free at SSB, including use of our Photo Matching program, so it’s good to ask about it before you choose a sperm bank.
In addition, all our client service coordinators know our donors personally. This is extremely important because it helps us better connect clients with the right donors while giving you valuable peace of mind.
